Confession: Epiphany 3B

Here’s a prayer of confession based on the scripture texts for January 22, 2012 (the third Sunday after Epiphany).  It was written by Rev. Kenneth Walker.

Prayer of Confession
(based on 1 Corinthians 7:29-31, Psalm 62: 5-12)

God our Father, we are sorry that we become so engrossed with ourselves and our worldly matters. We do not give time to consider why you made us who we are and placed us where we are. Sometimes we feel that our affairs are too trivial to bring before you. We believe we can manage life by ourselves. Yet we realise that we are part of your kingdom; that you created us and have a purpose for us. Forgive our selfcentredness, and give us a wider vision, so that in you we may find our true selves and the reason for our being. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord.

— written by Rev Kenneth Walker, retired of Athelstaneford with Whitekirk and Tyninghame.  It was posted on the Chuch of Scotland’s Starters for Sunday website.
